Ceiling Vacuums Melbourne
Ceiling vacuums in Melbourne clear decades of dust, old insulation, possum and rodent droppings and building debris from your roof space. Our truck-mounted 25HP vacuum draws it all straight into sealed hoppers, leaving a clean ceiling cavity ready for new insulation, wiring or renovation work.

What a ceiling vacuum actually involves
A ceiling vacuum is a full clean of the roof space above your ceiling. A hose is run from our truck to the manhole, and our technicians work systematically across the ceiling, between every joist and into the eaves, removing loose material as they go. Because the vacuum operates under negative pressure, dust is pulled away from your rooms and into the truck rather than stirred into the house.
It is the same equipment we use for insulation removal, and the two services often go hand in hand. The difference is focus: a ceiling vacuum is about getting the roof space properly clean, whether or not you are replacing the insulation straight away.

Why Melbourne roof spaces get so dirty
Many Melbourne homes have roofs that have never been cleaned. A weatherboard cottage in the inner north or a 1960s brick veneer in the eastern suburbs might hold sixty years of accumulated material above the ceiling. Common problems we find include:
- Fine dust that has blown in through roof tiles, vents and gaps over many years
- Possum droppings and urine, especially in leafy suburbs and homes near parks and creeks
- Rat and mouse nests built from shredded insulation
- Crumbling old loose-fill insulation and broken batts
- Builders' rubble, offcuts and old wiring left after renovations
- Leaves and debris that have made their way under loose tiles after storms
All of this affects how the roof space performs and how the house smells and feels. Dust and droppings can make their way into rooms through downlights, exhaust fans and ceiling vents.

When to book a ceiling vacuum
Before new insulation goes in
New batts perform best when they sit directly on a clean ceiling with nothing underneath. Vacuuming first gives you a clean base and means you are not sealing old dust and contamination under fresh insulation.
After possums or rodents have been removed
Once a licensed wildlife controller has humanely removed possums and sealed the entry points, cleaning out their droppings and nesting material is the next step. Possums are protected wildlife in Victoria, so the removal itself needs to be done by the right people before we start.
Before renovations, rewiring or solar
Electricians, plumbers and air conditioning installers work more safely and quickly in a clean roof space. A ceiling vacuum before a renovation also stops old dust dropping through when ceilings are cut or replaced.
When there are odours or air quality concerns
Lingering smells in a bedroom or hallway often come from the roof space above. If you notice odours, stains on the ceiling or more dust than usual, a vacuum is a good place to start.
Ceiling vacuum or full insulation removal?
The two services use the same equipment but solve slightly different problems. If your existing insulation is old, compressed or contaminated, a full insulation removal takes it all out along with the dust, and new insulation goes in afterwards. If you have no insulation, or very little, a ceiling vacuum simply cleans the roof space so the new insulation sits on a clean surface. If you only want the space cleaned for trades or a renovation, the vacuum can be done on its own and insulation added later. During the assessment we explain which option suits your home and why, so you only pay for the work you actually need.

Older Melbourne homes and safety checks
If your home was built before 1990, the materials in the roof space should be checked before they are disturbed. We look carefully at what is there during our free on-site assessment. If anything suspicious is found, the job stops until it has been tested and handled in line with Victorian requirements. Our systems are ISO 45001 certified for health and safety, and our crews wear appropriate protective equipment on every job.
Our ceiling vacuum process
- Free on-site assessment of the roof space, access and contents, with a written quote
- Truck set up outside and floors protected near the access point
- Systematic vacuuming between every joist, including hard-to-reach eaves where access allows
- Removal of larger debris and old insulation by hand where needed
- Waste taken away for disposal
- Final inspection and photos so you can see the result
Follow up with new insulation
Once the roof space is clean, it makes sense to add new insulation while the space is clear. Melbourne is in climate zone 6, so a higher ceiling R-value goes a long way towards a warmer winter. We install Knauf Earthwool® batts, made with up to 80% recycled glass, ECOSE® Technology with no added formaldehyde, and backed by a 50-year manufacturer warranty.
Ceiling vacuums throughout Greater Melbourne
From our Dandenong South and Campbellfield hubs we service inner Melbourne, the northern suburbs including Preston, Brunswick and Whittlesea, the eastern and south-eastern suburbs including Bayside and Monash, and the western suburbs including Werribee, Sunshine and Point Cook.
