Insulation Removal Brisbane
Insulation removal in Brisbane is the first step when the material in your roof is old, wet, compacted or fouled by pests. Insulation Extract vacuums it out with a 25HP negative-pressure system that feeds straight into sealed truck hoppers, so nothing comes through your living areas.

Insulation does not last forever, and Brisbane roofs are hard on it. Months of extreme roof-space heat, high humidity, storm leaks and visiting wildlife all take their toll. Once insulation has broken down, it no longer slows heat moving into your home, and it can introduce dust, odours and allergens. Removing it properly clears the way for new insulation that actually performs.

Signs your insulation needs to be removed
Not every roof needs a full extraction. These are the most common reasons we recommend removal in South East Queensland homes:
- Batts that have flattened or compacted to a fraction of their original thickness
- Insulation that has been soaked by a roof leak, gutter overflow or storm damage and has stayed damp or stained
- Droppings, nesting material and odours from possums, rats, mice or birds
- Old loose-fill cellulose or "fluff" that has settled unevenly and leaves bare patches
- Gaps, missing sections and insulation pushed aside by trades working in the roof
- Musty smells or mould in or near the roof space
- A plan to renovate, rewire, install downlights or upgrade to higher R-value batts

Why Brisbane homes need clean, careful extraction
Storm season and moisture
Severe summer storms, sometimes with hail, are part of life in South East Queensland. A cracked tile, lifted sheet or blocked valley can let water into the roof without anyone noticing for weeks. Wet insulation slumps, stays damp in humid weather and can encourage mould. Simply drying it out rarely restores its performance.
Possums, rats and roof-space pests
Brisbane's leafy suburbs are home to plenty of possums, and rats and mice find their way into roof spaces year round. Contaminated insulation can carry odours and hygiene risks into the home. Removing it, along with droppings and nesting material, is often the best way to reset the roof space before new insulation goes in.
Older homes and loose-fill
Many SEQ homes have had insulation added at different times over the decades, sometimes in layers. A thorough removal gives a clean, even base, so new batts sit flat and achieve their rated performance.
Renovations, rewiring and upgrades
Plenty of Brisbane removals are planned rather than urgent. If you are lifting a Queenslander, adding an extension, replacing ceilings, rewiring or swapping old halogen downlights, clearing the roof space first makes the work easier and cleaner for every trade involved. It also means you finish the project with fresh insulation fitted around the new layout, rather than old batts pushed back into place by hand.
Our 25HP vacuum extraction method
We use a high-powered 25HP negative-pressure vacuum. Hoses run from the truck to the roof space, usually through the roof or the manhole, and the old material is drawn directly into sealed hoppers on the truck.
- No bags dragged through hallways and living rooms
- No interior dust when the job is set up correctly
- Faster and more thorough than hand removal
- Debris, dust and droppings removed along with the insulation
Because the material goes straight into a sealed hopper, it is contained from the moment it leaves the ceiling until it is disposed of.

Safety checks before we remove anything
Health and safety come first. Our team follows systems certified to ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety, alongside ISO 9001 for quality and ISO 14001 for environmental management.
Pre-1990 homes
If your home was built before 1990, old insulation and surrounding materials should be checked before removal work starts. If our team identifies anything that could contain asbestos, we stop and recommend testing by a licensed professional. We do not disturb suspect material.
Electrical safety
Old wiring, junction boxes and downlights are common in older Brisbane roof spaces. We identify hazards before starting and keep work well clear of exposed or damaged electrical components, recommending an electrician where needed.
Roof access and heat
Brisbane roof spaces get dangerously hot in summer. We plan work to manage heat exposure for our crews and schedule jobs to keep the team safe and productive.

The insulation removal process
- 1
Free assessment
We inspect the roof space, identify the type and condition of the existing insulation, check for pests, moisture and hazards, and give you a clear recommendation.
- 2
Set-up and protection
The truck is positioned, hoses are run into the roof and access points are protected.
- 3
Extraction
Old insulation, dust and debris are vacuumed out into sealed hoppers. Corners, eaves and areas around joists are cleared as thoroughly as access allows.
- 4
New insulation
Most customers install new Knauf Earthwool® batts straight after removal. Earthwool® is made with up to 80% recycled glass and ECOSE® Technology, a bio-based binder with no added formaldehyde, and carries a 50-year manufacturer warranty.
- 5
Quality check
We check the roof space, confirm coverage and clearances and show you the finished result.
